How to transfer ownership of a Squarespace site

Hand off the billing and ownership of a Squarespace site to a client or new owner cleanly.

  • You're the current Owner
  • The new owner has a Squarespace account

Step by step

  1. 01

    Add them as Administrator first

    Settings → Permissions → Invite Contributor → Administrator. Wait for them to accept.

  2. 02

    Transfer ownership

    From Permissions, find their name, click the gear icon, choose Transfer Ownership.

  3. 03

    Confirm via email

    Both you and the new owner receive a confirmation email. Once they accept, billing moves to their account.

  4. 04

    Step down to Administrator (optional)

    After the transfer you'll auto-demote to Administrator. Leave or stay based on the agreement.
