How to design a logo in Canva (free, no design background)
Design a clean, ownable logo in Canva in under an hour — including the exports (SVG, PNG, favicon) you'll actually need.
- A free or Pro Canva account
- A working brand name
Step by step
- 01
Start from a blank, not a template
Templates lead to look-alike logos. Create a Custom Size canvas (800×800 px) and start with your name typed out.
- 02
Pick a typeface that fits your brand
Tech/modern → DM Sans, Inter. Premium → Cormorant, Playfair. Friendly → Quicksand, Nunito. Type your name in 3-4 fonts on the same canvas to compare.
- 03
Add ONE shape or icon — maybe
A wordmark (just text) often beats a wordmark + icon. If you add an icon, keep it geometric and simple. Avoid Canva's 'logo' search results — those get reused thousands of times.
- 04
Pick the color
Start with one color + black + white. Two-color logos look amateur. Use a tool like coolors.co to pick a hex.
- 05
Test it small
Duplicate at 80 px wide. If you can't read it or the icon disappears, simplify until you can.
- 06
Export everything you need
Share → Download → SVG (for the web), PNG transparent at 2000 px (for everywhere else), and a 512×512 PNG renamed favicon.png for your site.
