Before you start
  • A target keyword with real search volume
  • Search Console verified on your site

Step by step

  1. 01

    Match search intent first

Google the keyword. What format ranks? If it's all listicles, write a listicle. If it's all tutorials, write a tutorial. Fighting the SERP format always loses.

  2. 02

    Find the angle Google's missing

Open the top 5 results. List what they all say. Then ask: what's the thing none of them mention? That's your originality wedge — and AI Overviews specifically prefer it.

  3. 03

    Outline before writing

H1 with the keyword. 5-8 H2s answering the obvious sub-questions. Each H2 gets one specific data point or example — not just opinion.

  4. 04

Write a 60-word intro that earns the read

Skip 'In today's fast-paced world'. State the problem, who this is for, and the outcome they'll get. AI Overviews quote intros — make yours quotable.

  5. 05

    Add unique assets

An original chart, a screenshot of your own data, a quote from an expert. Pure-text articles get out-ranked in 2026 because LLMs already produce those.

  6. 06

    Internal-link to 3-5 related posts

Topic clusters still work. Link with descriptive anchor text, not 'click here'.

  7. 07

    Add FAQ schema

End with 3-5 FAQs and mark them up with FAQPage JSON-LD. They earn extra SERP real estate and feed AI Overviews.
